Nel corso dell’anno scolastico la classe terza ha partecipato ad uno spettacolo teatrale in lingua inglese presso il Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo
SHAKESPEARE’S VILLAINS
On 31st March our class (3A Liceo Linguistico) went to the Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo to watch the one man-play “Shakespeare’s Villains” created and performed by Steven Berkoff, a famous English actor and theatre director.
The plot was about the wicked characters in Shakespeare’s plays, from the tragedies of Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet and Richard III to the comedy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The actor showed us their thoughts and their intentions putting himself in their shoes; moreover he quoted some extracts from the original plays and was able to interpret two or more people at the same time in a versatile way.
He dressed in black to be up to act everyone; also the backdrop was black to create more focus on the actor. Furthermore there was only one spotlight always pointed on him to keep the attention on his performance. The lights changed only when he acted some passages, so that the audience could better understand.
There were also some supertitles placed above the stage. At the end of the exhibition the public applauded Steven Berkoff so much that he made three curtain calls.
In my opinion everybody who likes Shakespeare should attend this show which was well-interpreted by an actor who was able to captivate and interest all the spectators with his talent and funny way to perform villains.
